Common Questions About Leading Edge Associates

Leading Edge Associates is a Canadian Lean consulting and training firm originally founded in 1995. The firm helps healthcare systems, municipal and provincial governments, and private-sector organizations improve operational performance through Lean Six Sigma consulting engagements and accredited belt certification programs. Over 5,000 professionals have earned LEA-issued credentials.

LEA works primarily with Canadian healthcare (hospitals, long-term care, community health), municipal and provincial government, public libraries, legal and professional services, manufacturing, construction, utilities, and financial services. Sector-specialized belt programs are offered for healthcare and local government, with curriculum, case studies, and instructors drawn from each sector.

LEA offers four belt levels: White Belt (8 hours, Lean awareness), Yellow Belt (16 hours, project-ready), Green Belt (85 hours, full DMAIC methodology and project leadership), and Black Belt (160 hours, enterprise transformation). Several belt programs are delivered in partnership with Ontario Tech University. Open enrollment cohorts and customized in-house delivery are both available.

LEA is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario at 60 St. Clair Avenue East, Suite 805. Belt certification programs are delivered Canada-wide in three modes: live online cohorts, onsite at client locations, and blended formats. Consulting engagements have served clients across all ten provinces and into the United States.

Yes. Most LEA belt certification programs qualify for the Canada Job Grant, which typically covers 50 to 80 percent of eligible training costs depending on the province. Some provinces offer additional workforce development funds for the health sector. Eligibility and reimbursement timelines vary by province and should be confirmed before enrollment.

LEA does both Lean training and Lean execution. Beyond classroom instruction, the consulting team delivers improvement projects directly with clients on the shop floor, in clinical departments, and across municipal operations. Trainers are industry veterans with backgrounds in instructional design or direct operating experience in the sectors they teach, including healthcare, government, manufacturing, and construction. Several belt programs are offered in partnership with Ontario Tech University.

Timelines depend on scope. A focused Kaizen event delivers measurable results in 3 to 5 days. A Yellow Belt project runs 4 to 8 weeks. A Green Belt project covering a department or value stream typically runs 3 to 6 months. An enterprise-wide Black Belt transformation runs 12 to 24 months. Most consulting clients see initial process improvements within the first 8 to 12 weeks.
